This has always been a super power for engineers. The best engineers think beyond the lines of code, and are more interested in solving the user problem.
Talk about user research, understanding how a product works.
Exercise: get on YC startup school, and work with a non technical founder to build a simple MVP. Let them handle a lot of the marketing side, but use this as an opportunity to really understand users and build something they love.
